What We Do
Our History
For more than 25 years, the Michigan Federation of College Democrats has been working to create a rigorous, powerful youth voice and vote.
Because of the College Democrats, Michigan’s Gen Z turnout in 2022 was more than 35%- higher than every other state in the nation.
As an organization, the MFCD has helped to register thousands of college voters, support the best of our democratic candidates at every level of government, and helped to create a blue wave in Michigan, stopping the forecasted red wave, and creating a democratic trifecta in Michigan for the first time in more than 4 decades.
Our Mission
It is the mission of the Michigan College Democrats to uphold democratic majorities at all levels of government in the Great Lakes State. It is our duty and responsibility to serve as the chartered arm of the College Democrats of America in our great state; in order to represent members and chapters of the MFCD statewide. We work to support and develop democratic policy and philosophy.
Our Principles
-
We aim to empower students by providing them with the tools, resources, and knowledge necessary to be informed, active citizens. Through educational programs, workshops, and discussions, we promote political awareness, critical thinking, and effective advocacy skills. We encourage our members to find their voices, express their opinions, and make a meaningful impact on issues that matter to them. We represent their will in Lansing, when our legislature is deciding on issues important to the student body.
-
We are committed to fostering a culture of intellectual growth and open dialogue. We seek to enhance our members' understanding of democratic principles, social justice, and policy matters at local, state, and national levels. We host seminars, guest speakers, and collaborative events that encourage learning, respectful debate, and the exchange of diverse perspectives. By promoting political literacy, we strive to develop future leaders who can navigate complex political landscapes and effective political change. Michigan’s future leaders don’t come from anywhere.
-
We recognize that true change requires collective action. We actively engage with our community, collaborating with other student organizations, local campaigns, and democratic initiatives. Through voter registration drives, campaign volunteering, and issue-based advocacy, we strive to mobilize students to participate in elections, promote progressive policies, and amplify their voices. We aim to be a catalyst for positive change, inspiring our members to become active agents of social and political transformation.
